MLS Shares the Christmas Spirit

‘Tis the season of giving and hope, and at Magic Laundry Services we hope to provide these feelings and more to all of our employees.

Over the past 15 years, MLS has held our annual Christmas party at Stevens Steakhouse, celebrating the Holiday with all our employees. The annual holiday party is always spent enjoying dinner dancing, and gift giving. This annual Christmas party is looked forward to by all and is time where MLS employees can mingle and enjoy each other’s company outside of our normal routine. With such an important holiday, we knew that we could not forgo this years’ celebration and made sure that we still give back to our employees. Although there was no steak house, or gifts to raffle off, it was our top priority to let our employees know they are appreciated and celebrated. Today we honored each of our employees by handing out gift bags and gift cards, to express our gratitude to the employees that make MLS who we are. We hope that all members of the MLS family, employees and customers, have a Merry Christmas!

Magic Moves – SoCal Plant Expansion to ‘San Berdoo’

Despite the recent downturn in hotel traffic related to COVID-19, Magic Laundry Services (MLS) recently announced plans for the latest expansion of its hotel linen operations in Southern California. Specifically, MLS is growing beyond its three-plant base in the same Los Angeles (Montebello) neighborhood with the purchase of a new location in the “Inland Empire,” the metro area east of Los Angeles. MLS’s fourth production facility will encompass 60,000 square feet on 2.5 acres in San Bernardino.

The new plant, located roughly 60 miles from LA, will be home to two  elevated sort decks, three jumbo-tunnel-wash systems, eight ironer lines, eight towel folders and a dry-cleaning department for processing uniforms and specialty items. With an unprecedented level of systems integration, this combination of equipment is expected to comprise the most automated laundry on the West Coast, capable of processing 280,000-plus lbs. (127,005 kg.) of linen each day.

Establishing this operation away from central Los Angeles gives MLS easier access to hotel properties in the San Diego, Riverside, and Desert Resort areas.

MLS plans to phase into the building starting in January 2021, beginning with a loading dock expansion to accommodate multiple-truck access to a very large check-in and check-out area – completely  enclosed. Other key features include:

  • Solar-energy panels, foreseeably powering the entire operation
  • Water-resource processing intended to make the plant the greenest laundry facility in the United States

Located at the tip of Interstates 10 and 215, “We can jump on and be in our Desert Resort properties within 35 minutes and head south to San Diego properties in one hour,” said owner/CFO Harry Kertenian. Work will be shifted from the Los Angeles locations to the new facility here, opening those plants to new customers and expanded services to existing ones.

“MLS has been working with the city of San Bernardino directly, which has shown amazing support and encouragement to our organization,” says Cory Acton, VP of operations. “The area needs an employer like us to create new jobs in a region that has been hit hard with the pandemic.”

MLS views the decision to grow in uncertain times as a commitment to the hospitality industry of Southern California for years to come. The company’s management is confident that tourism and hospitality will return to the area sooner, rather than later, and it’s determined to be a leader in ensuring that its current customers and other hotels can access the service and quality they need to meet guest demands.

MLS IN SUPPORT OF YES! FOR A BETTER SAN DIEGO

Magic Laundry Services, Inc. has joined San Diego’s local lodging representatives in backing the YES! For A Better San Diego, “YES On C” Initiative. Since San Diego is a world class destination, Tourism is one of the largest contributors to San Diego’s economy. With limited resources available, inadequate funding threatens the City’s reputation for being a top destination spot. “YES On C” means dedicated funds for potholes and infrastructure that are in dire need of repair, funds dedicated to outdated/inadequate convention and facilities, creation of 7,000 quality, blue collar jobs for working people, and funding to directly make an impact on helping San Diego’s homeless families back on their feet. This measure will provide significant new revenues to address these challenges and best of all, is that the revenue generated will be done so by hotel visitors, not San Diegans. The hotel and tourist industries support the measure as do prominent Democrats, Republicans, the Taxpayers Association, and San Diego’s Labor Unions. MLS is happy to say YES! For A Better San Diego.

MLS HOSTS WESTERN TEXTILE SERVICES ASSOC. (WTSA) PLANT TOUR

On Friday, January 24, 2020, Magic Laundry Services hosted the Western Textile Services Association (WTSA) for a Plant Tour of our facilities in Montebello, CA. The plant tour was hosted for 70 WTSA Members, as they held their 2020 Annual Production Clinic in Los Angeles. Magic Laundry Services was excited to host the tour, as we are always open to hosting events that help to build a stronger industry community.

The tour group arrived at 10:00 AM and were greeted in front of Plant 1, by the Magic Laundry Services Team for brief overview of the facilities. The group was then split into groups of 10 and designated to a specific MLS tour guide. The whole tour came together thanks to the special partnerships we have with our vendors. MLS had 10 stations set up throughout the plant and many of the vendors that work with Magic Laundry Services on a daily basis were able to participate and give an overview of their equipment/services and how they complement our operation on a daily basis.

Our partner vendors for this event included: Chicago Dryer, Gurtler Industries, Kannegiesser ETECH, Milnor Pellerin Corporation, Softrol, and Tingue Brown. In addition to our vendors, the entire MLS Team is credited with the success of the tour, and special thanks to our Engineering and Transportation departments, who also hosted their own station to present their operations to participants at the tour.
Magic Laundry Services operates with an open-door policy, and if you wish to set up a tour, please feel free to reach out to your dedicated customer service representative, or through our website.
